Wasim Ahmad has spent decades at the forefront of the technologies that quietly shape our digital lives. As a schoolboy, he was among the first generation to learn Prolog, one of the earliest artificial intelligence programming languages. After university, he was an astronaut candidate with the Juno Project, but was too young to be allowed into space — before eventually ending up at a British startup, Synon, recipient of the Queen’s Award for Technology, focused on software-based code generation, many years ahead of the current trends.

After studying Physics at the University of Sussex and spending a year in Paris, he built an international career turning complex cryptography into products used by millions. He helped launch groundbreaking email encryption based on identity-based encryption, worked alongside leading cryptographers including Professor Dan Boneh, introduced end-to-end payment protection using format-preserving encryption, and joined Vault12, where he works on digital inheritance for cryptocurrency using Shamir’s Secret Sharing.
